There are three types of Usher Syndrome.

Which type are you?

Type 1

Type 1 is the most severe form of Usher Syndrome. Patients are often profoundly deaf at birth, with progressive vision loss starting in childhood, potentially leading to blindness. Type 1 Usher patients typically also struggle with balance.

Type 2

Type 2 is the most common of the three. Patients usually have moderate to severe hearing loss at birth. Progressive vision loss due to retinitis pigmentosa is often observed and diagnosed in the late teen to early adult years. Blindness may occur in some cases, but not all.

Type 3

Type 3 is characterized by very aggressive hearing and vision loss. Here, patients are born with normal hearing and vision. However, hearing and vision often starts to decline in the teen years, and leads to complete deafness and blindness late in their adult lives.
